WWIV Scenarios

There are several scenario's available for WWIV, many unique to Pagoda Games.  A complete list follows.  Please note that all new games will use the new V4 unit database, unless specified.

1. Standard Version

This is a regular 40 player game and follows the rules as laid out in the rulebook.   Victory conditions may vary from game to game, though a game will usually end when one player reached 1000 VPs, or there are only 5 active positions left in the game.   Any unit changes will be listed in the set-up report.

2. All Email / Weekly

This is the same as the standard game, except turns are run every 7 days.  As such we prefer players to have email access for receiving turns and submitting orders, but paper based players can still sign-up if they feel they can keep up.

3. America’s Game -

The game is played on the North and South America maps, with 10 player controlled countries and a computer controlled Alaska. Countries start with increased resources and tech levels. Minor changes to the rules have been made for this scenario to aid play balance, which include nuclear weapons not allowed to be fired until turn 5. This is an ideal scenario for beginners who want to sample the game but do not fancy diploming with 39 other players!

4. Blitz

The new Blitz variant is now available for commercial play. Featuring just 8 players spread across the whole global map, it is a race over 20 turns to control as many of the remaining 32 Capital hexes as possible. No alliance or trade between the other players is allowed, and most games will have anonymous play, for those who want no diplomacy at all. We have also bumped up the starting tech and resources for each position, allowing the higher tech units to come into play right from the start. For those looking for a break from diplomacy or just a smash and grab wargame with advanced military units, this is the scenario you have been waiting for.

5. Team Game

We realise that most players have friends who they wish to join WWIV with. Unfortunately if we place them in a regular game, this can imbalance the surrounding positions. As such what we can now offer is a team game variant. This splits the world into either 6 and 8 teams of four countries spread across the global map. The four countries that make up a team start allied to each other, and no other allies can be added. The game is played out like a regular game, but there is no opportunity for backstabbing and everyone knows who is allied to whom from the outset. Although we prefer a group of friends to join up together to form a team, we can accept players on their own and will try to find them their team-mates. Also, you are allowed to play more than one position within the same team if you wish, though you will have to pay for each position as normal.

6. Head 2 Head

Got a grudge against a particular player?  Think are you are the best at one-on-one play in WWIV and want to prove it?  Well now is your chance.
Using the single South American map, we have developed three scenarios that allows players to take on an a single opponent in all out combat.
a) Basic: In this version Argentina and Venezuela are player controlled, with Brazil, Peru and Mexico being played by the computer. Players start with increased resources and tech levels.
b) Buddy: Players now control two counties at start, with only Mexico being under the control of the computer. At game start players have 30 technology points which they can distribute among the 5 tech fields or convert into ec’s.
c) Team Buddy: Using the buddy rules, 4 players take part in two teams of two.
For each scenario no nuclear weapons can be fired until turn 5.

For these scenario’s we can customise various features if players wish. You can start by nominating an opponent, or you can just put your name into a pool and we will (initially) pick players at random. For the team games it is easier if 4 players join together, but we should be able to find you allies/opponents fairly easily otherwise.

7. Sample Game

This is a new scenario to allow newcomers to try the game without committing to a regular game.  So long as you have a copy of the rules and maps (all available from the website) and receive your results via email there will be no charge for this game.   If you require your results to be snail mailed to you, a 50p printing and postage fee will be applied for each of the 5 turns.

In this scenario you are placed in control of the USA, and have just 5 turns to expand as far as possible.  You start with increased tech levels and resoures, and have a scattering of units already on the map.  The surrounding countries also have units on the map, but they will not move nor will any reinforcements be built.

As you are the only one in the game you can play at your own pace, and we will process your orders as soon as they arrive (upto 2 per day).  At the end of the five turns your score will be taken (using your VP score) and added to a league table to allow you to see how you fair against other players.  We will operate two such tables, one for newcomers and one for regular players.

If you wish to play any additional games of this scenario (or if you wish to continue after your five turns) then a fee of 50p will be applied per turn to cover administration costs.  This scenario is open to both newcomers and regular players.

8. Super Power Variant

World War 3 did not devastate the larger countries as much as first thought. As such, many of them have been able to maintain a military presence outside their existing borders. Of the 20 countries that survived, each managed to move a military force into the Capital of a nearby neutral country and declare it allied to them. They also managed to retain a higher technology level, increased resource and economic wealth, and retain their Super Power status. You can now take control of one of these countries. You will start with a much larger internal military force than in regular games, and as mentioned you will automatically have allied to you one neighbouring country where you have a small force present in the capital. Your Tech levels are increased, and you can also opt to concentrate on one area of tech that starts off higher than the rest. Your economic and resource base is also much larger than in standard games.

[NOTE: No further SuperPower games are planned. However if a group of friends wish to try this scenario we can arrange it]

Many of the scenario's list above can be customised for a group of friends.  If you are interested then please contact us and we will try to work something out for you.
